Hello, My name is Martha Leal. I have lived in central Texas for 15 years. I am married to my best friend and share my home with two turtle, two dogs, two chickens and a rooster. To some, they may be pets, but to me, they are members of my family. I have three beautiful adult children and five precious grandchildren. I have worked for Bastrop ISD as a teacher since 2008. I received my Bachelors of Science in Applied Sociology, and my teacher certifications in 2008. I initially came into the classroom with counseling in mind but fell in love with the classroom. I stayed as an educator for 7 years. I am currently a student at Lamar University obtaining my Masters in counseling. I am an intern at Lost Pines Elementary working under the supervision of Mrs. Denise Rogers; a certified counselor. My desire as school counselor is to help the students gain academic, social, emotional, and personal success. My plan is to work with staff, parents, and the surrounding community to help equip the students with all that they need and deserve.
I believe students are the future as they will impact our country and its progression. I believe ALL students are to be taught utilizing the highest state standards, and deserve an equitable education. As a counselor I will value and respect all students as people, and not view them simply as data. I believe that all students can learn, and that diversity should be celebrated. I will work with all stakeholders to make sure to provide a comprehensive school counseling program that
best fits the needs of our student body.
