Assistant Principal - Joanna Villarreal

My name is Joanna Villarreal. I was born and raised in South Florida and moved to the Rio Grande Valley (Progreso, Texas) during my high school years. I began working in education at 18 years old as a teacher's aide, a role I spent four years in. That experience is where my passion for teaching first began.

I later moved to Austin to continue my education and graduated from Texas State University. I secured my first teaching position as a Pre-K teacher in Lockhart ISD. During my time there, I continued to grow as an educator and later became a reading interventionist. After earning my master's degree in leadership, I stepped into my first administrative role as an assistant principal in 2021, and wrapped up my 10 years in Lockhart as a District Bilingual Coach.

My spouse and I live in South Austin. We enjoy traveling and spending time together watching true crime documentaries. Family is a very important part of my life; I come from a family of five siblings and am a proud aunt to thirteen nieces and nephews.

I am thankful for the opportunity to join the Lost Pines Elementary team. I am deeply passionate about bilingual education and am a strong advocate for both students and teachers. My leadership approach is rooted in equity, growth, and communication. I am excited to be a part of this community and look forward to bringing my experience to support our collective success.
